10 Tips for Parents

  1. Model behaviornon-verbal and verbal (no shouting or swearing.)

  2. Praise good behavior (" I liked how you picked up your toys and put them in the basket." Be specific.)

  3. Ignore small misbehaviors (try redirecting. " We don't throw trucks inside but you can throw this soft block.")

  4. Understand your child’s behavior (Why is she crying? Is she tired or hungry- usually both!)

  5. Validate feelings  (" You look sad?")

  6. Set limits ("We need to brush your teeth before a story.")

  7. Have routines (bath, story, bed.)

  8. Have fun together.

  9. Try to have one-to-one time with your child.

  10. Look after yourself !
